CIF title games set
The stages for the four local teams set to compete for CIF-San Diego Section titles have been set, with the Vincent Memorial High boys’ soccer team opening the weekend championships at 5 p.m. Friday. Southwest High basketball, Central Union and Calexico soccer will all compete for their section championships on Saturday in what could be a historic day for Imperial Valley High School athletics. How they got there Of all the teams competing for a CIF title this winter, Calexico had the longest path to the championship. The Bulldogs had to win a play-in game just to reach the first rounds, meaning Saturday’s game will be their fifth playoff game. Like Southwest, the No. 12 Bulldogs have upset every team they’ve face including No. 5 Bonita Vista, No. 4 Castle Park and No. 8 Chula Vista in overtime most recently.
This earned Calexico its second finals appearance in three years with the first coming in 2016 in the Div. I tourney.

Who No. 8 Southwest and No. 2 San Diego
How they got there Southwest High opened the playoffs with a solid, 78-50, win over No. 9 Calipatria High. Since then, the No. 8 Eagles have clawed for a chance to advance to the title game first taking down No. 1 Maranatha Christian, 57-55, then No. 4 Tri-City Christian, 59-51.
With that, Southwest (19-11 overall) advances to face No. 2 San Diego, who defeated Guajome Park 82-56 in the semis and Victory Christian Academy, 74-51, in the quarterfinals. Central Union High School What CIF-SDS Div. IV soccer final

Who No. 6 Central and No. 1 Sage Creek
How they got there Central has played nearly flawless the entire post season. The No. 6 Spartans have allowed just one goal and scored a total of 10 in their three-game playoff run. They defeated No. 11 La Jolla Country Day, 4-0, No. 3 El Cajon Valley, 3-0, and No. 2 Sweetwater, 3-1.
This places the Spartans in the Div. IV final, where they’ll face No. 1 Sage Creek, who squeaked into the finals with a 1-0 win over No. 5 Vista on Wednesday night. Vincent Memorial High School
What CIF-SDS Div. V soccer final

Who No. 3 Vincent Memorial and No. 1 West Shores
How they got there The Scots used a first-round bye to advance to the quarterfinals, where they blanked No. 11 Army-Navy, 4-0. In Wednesday night’s semifinal, Vincent Memorial took down No. 7 High Tech CV, 5-1, to advance to face the top-seeded West Shores Wildcats in the final. The teams are more than familiar with one another as the both compete in the Manzanita League, giving Friday’s game that much more meaning.
The Scots won the ML crown over West Shores this season and are likely determined to do the same in the CIF final.
