New CHP Commander for Winterhaven Area
Scott Laverty, 45, has been appointed as the new California Highway Patrol Winterhaven Area Commander by the CHP Commissioner, Warren Stanley, under the direction of CHP’s Border Division’s Chief, Jim Abele.
Scott Laverty is one of many distinguished military veterans in the CHP, having served 26 years with the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army.
Laverty started his career with CHP in 2001, and has served in multiple positions, including road patrol, commercial enforcement and protective services. He has also served as an instructor. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant on Jan. 31, 2018.
He entered military service at 17 years old and served 26 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.
Laverty has attended numerous educational institutions, including Oxford University, where he studied organizational leadership, and the Army’s Command and General Staff College. He holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree.
Prior to his CHP experience, Laverty’s family owned a farm, where he was raised and worked for the first 17 years of his life.
“I not only understand the unique challenges that exist where agriculture and military is prevalent, but I believe that my experience of public service communicates commitment and trust, which is a foundation for strong community partnerships,” Laverty said. “I will ensure that the values and mission of the CHP are continued through providing the best safety, service, and security that we can to the public.”
