Border Patrol agents reportedly assaulted

-

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents were assaulted Monday in two separate events in Calexico, but did not sustain any major injuries.

In the first incident, at about 6:30 a.m. an agent allegedly was punched in the face while questioning a man suspected of illegally entering the United States, the Border Patrol reported.

The man, who had run away after striking the agent, was subsequently arrested by responding agents and taken to the Calexico station for processing.

The agent received medical attention but did not sustain significant injuries.

During the second incident, agents responded to an area near the downtown port of entry at about 9 p.m. after having observed four subjects allegedly enter the country illegally, the agency reported.

After agents identified themselves and attempted to question the four subjects, the four ran away from the agents. Agents were able to apprehend two of the subjects while the remaining two fled back into Mexico.

While the agents pursued the two running back to Mexico, large chunks of debris and rocks were allegedly thrown at agents from other people present in Mexico, the Border Patrol reported.

The agents were forced to take cover and protect the two people apprehended earlier. No major injuries were experienced.
