Eagles edge Wildcats in extras

EL CENTRO — The softball teams from Southwest and Brawley Union highs met for an extra-inning thriller here on Tuesday night in IVL action.

The Eagles took the game, 2-1, in the bottom of the 10th inning with Iliana Manzano recording the bases-loaded walk-off single that scored Arianna Izaguirre, who opened the inning with a double.

Earning the win in the circle for the Eagles was junior Sadriena Rodriguez.

The lefty starter went all 10 innings scattering four hits, giving up just one earned run and walking five, while striking out 11 in the effort.

At the plate for the Eagles, Adriana Molina had two hits, Rodriguez had a double, Jaelyn Niebla had a hit and one RBI and Mady Jungers and Emily Tellez each had a hit.

For Brawley, Jalyn Ayala went 2-5 with a first-inning home run and one RBI and Savannah Contreras and Lilly Martinez each had a hit.

In the circle Ayala pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing four hits while striking out five and Martinez pitched three innings allowing three hits and tallying four strikeouts.
