Eagles split tourney games

LAS VEGAS — The Southwest High softball team opened the Spring Jamboree here on Thursday, splitting a pair of games against Palo Verde of Nevada and Pahrump Valley.

The Eagles suffered a 5-0 loss to Palo Verde, with Sadriena Rodriguez taking the result in the circle. She threw five innings, giving up six hits and one earned run, while waving five.

Offensivel­y, Southwest had five hits with Arianna Izaguirre, Adriana Molina, Iliana Manzano, Leslie Solano and Emily Tellez each recording a hit.

The Eagles bounced back, defeating Pahrump Valley 16-4.

Rodriguez started the game and pitched only one inning as the team scored eight runs in the top of the first inning.

Rodriguez faced three batters and tallied one strikeout in the outing. Thyara Aguilar took it over from there, throwing three innings, giving up three hits and two earned runs.

Izaguirre then closed the game, throwing two innings while giving up no hits and one unearned run.

At the plate, Rodriguez had a single, a double and home run and three RBIs; Izaguirre had two hits with three RBIs; Solano had three hits with one RBI, and Manzano had two hits with two RBIs.

Also for the Eagles, Jaelyn Niebla had two hits; Aguilar had a two-run home run; and Tellez, Jewelia Mendez and Molina each had a hit.

Southwest moves to 13-3 on the season and returns to the field at 9 a.m. Friday.
