Volunteers turn out for fair booth
Scores of students and other Imperial Valley College representatives volunteered to help showcase what IVC has to offer at the 2018 California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta in March. The IVC booth was in the Preble Building at the fairgrounds.
In connection with the fair’s theme of “Fields of Dreams,” more than 300 children stopped by the booth and submitted drawings for the art contest, “What’s Your Dream Career?” Winners will be announced soon.
Among the groups representing IVC at the booth were ASG, Ambassadors, AmeriCorps members, Business Club, CAAP Club, Chemistry Club, Diesel Club, Fire Cadets, SSS Club, STEM Club, and Work Studies. In addition to promoting the college, some of the groups conducted experiments, showcased equipment, and provided handson activities for children.
Representatives from many areas of the college also participated, including: from Academic Services: Addiction Disorder Studies, Administration of Justice/Corrections, Auto Tech, Building Construction, Business, Child Development, Diesel, Distance Ed, Economic & Workforce Development, History, and Industrial Tech. From Student Services: Counseling, EOPS, Financial Aid, Military & Veterans Center, Student Affairs, Student Support Services, the Transfer Center.
Volunteers also included the IVC Foundation, a parent, and an alumnus. Others who helped make the college’s participation a success were Bill Gay, Mike Nicholas, Miriam Trejo, Nancy Sanchez, and the club advisers.
