Steven “Steve” Scott Pierson, 72, passed away January 30, 2018 at Hospice of the Piedmont, in High Point, NC, after a brief illness.

He was born on March 19, 1945 to Jack and Ruth Pierson in Monroe, Louisiana. Steve graduated from Central Union High School in El Centro, California, where he held a school record for many years in the high jump. He attended Baylor University his freshman year and transferre­d to Redlands University, Redlands, California, graduating with a Masters degree in Biology. Steve then obtained a medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine. From 1982 to 1983, Steve served in the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander/physician on a naval ship, based in Hawaii. Following his honorable discharge, Steve fulfilled one of his joys of traveling by participat­ing as a locus tenes physician in NC and Tennessee. Steve returned to Bowman Gray School of Medicine and completed a residency in psychiatry. Upon obtaining his board certificat­ion in Psychiatry and Neurology, he practiced as a psychiatri­st in Guilford County until his retirement in 2011. Upon retirement, Steve enjoyed pursuing another passion by building two homes, one in Tennessee and another in Virgina. Steve found fulfillmen­t in nature, civil war history and spending time with family and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen and daughter, Crystal; sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Keith Wetterer of San Diego, California; brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Jackie Pierson of El Centro, California and a niece, Sandra Wetterer Jessup and husband, Price of San Francisco, California.

Steve was laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery in High Point, NC.
