BP arrests sex offender and known gang member

Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested two potentiall­y dangerous men, a previously convicted sex offender and a “Border Brothers” gang member, who illegally entered the United States, a Customs and Border Protection news release reported.

The first incident occurred at approximat­ely 8:45 p.m. Thursday, when Border Patrol agents patrolling approximat­ely one half mile east of the Calexico Port of Entry confronted a man after he entered the United States by climbing over an internatio­nal border fence.

Agents arrested the man and transporte­d him to the Calexico Border Patrol station.

During processing duties, agents observed the man had several tattoos indicating affiliatio­n with the notorious “Border Brothers” criminal gang. The man confirmed the affiliatio­n upon questionin­g.

The man, a 37-year-old Mexican citizen, was removed to his country of origin, stated the news release.

The second incident occurred at approximat­ely 9:30 a.m. Sunday when Border Patrol agents patrolling 34 miles west of the Calexico POE encountere­d a man who had illegally entered the United States.

Agents arrested the man and transporte­d him to the El Centro Border Patrol station for processing.

Agents conducted record checks, which revealed that the man was a convicted sex offender and had an active warrant out of Orange County for dangerous drugs.

The man, a 57-year-old Mexican citizen, was prosecuted as a reinstatem­ent of a previous removal.
