-

A major traffic collision on Tuesday evening involving four vehicles near State Route 86 and Wildcat Road is currently being investigated as a criminal offense involving driving under the influence, the Brawley Police Department announced.

During the collision, the driver of one vehicle was ejected and eventually transported by Reach Air Medical Services to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

The three other drivers involved suffered minor injuries and were transported by Gold Cross Ambulance Services to Pioneers Memorial Hospital. All three were treated and were expected to be released from the hospital.

At around 6 p.m. Tuesday, the department received the report of a major traffic collision in the area of SR-86 and Wildcat. Officers responded to the area and located the four vehicles involved.

Brawley Fire Department responded to render emergency medical aid.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined an SUV, being driven by a 66-year-old Imperial County resident, was traveling at a high rate of speed while northbound on SR-86, just north of the intersection of SR-86 and Legion Road.

The SUV began to swerve and collided with two separate vehicles also traveling northbound on SR86. The SUV then lost control and overturned.

The SUV came to rest after striking a third vehicle facing northbound, waiting for the stop light at SR 86 and Wildcat.

The driver of the SUV was ejected and found pinned under a portion of the SUV. The SUV driver was air lifted to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries. He remains listed in critical condition.

Anyone with witness information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Brawley Police Department Investigations Division at (760) 351-7777.
