Spartan boys, girls top Tigers

EL CENTRO — The track and field teams from Central Union and Imperial highs met for an Imperial Valley League meet at Ed Raulston Memorial Track on a windy Wednesday afternoon here, with the Spartans coming away with a pair of wins over the Tigers.

The Spartan girls worked to edge the Tigers 67-60, while the boys recorded a solid 88-39 victory.

For the girls, Central’s Dahlia Ruiz won the 200 meters (29.66) and the long jump (13-04), Katya Lopez won the 400 meters (1:11.79) and Nohemi Anderson won the 800 meters (2:57.81) and the high jump (4-06).

The Spartan girls also swept the 4x400 and 4x100 relays, while Imperial’s Jessica Dick topped the 100-meter dash (13.70), the 100-meter hurdles (17.67) and the discus (87-01).

Also for the Tigers, Caitlin Brown won the 1600 (6:06.01) and the 3200 (13:36.73) meters, Lilly Vaal won the 300-meter hurdles (58.98), Ayanna McNair won the shotput (29-10) and Bryanna Rivera won the triple jump (29-02).

For the Central boys, Adolfo Limon won the 800 meters (2:24.03), Luis Sandoval won the 1600 meters (4:34.01), Joey Tarango won the 110-meter hurdles (16.01), the 300-meter hurdles (42.01) and the triple jump (39-04).

The Spartan boys swept both relay events and Angel Rico took first in both throwing events wining the shotput (42-07) and the discus (123-11).

Also for Central, Steven Marquez won the high jump (5-08) and Deandre Smith won the long jump (19-11).

For the Tigers, Aaron Moreno win the 100 meters (11.63), David Camacho won the 200 meters (24.11), Robert Quintero won the 400 meters (51.84) and Hector Nichols won the 3200 meters (10:46.05).
