IMPERIAL — The Imperial Valley College softball team picked up a pair of important conference victories last week, to remain in the No. 2 spot in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference standings.

The Arabs defeated Grossmont 6-1 and College of the Desert 11-0 to improve to 23-6 overall and 10-2 in PCAC action.

Helping IVC to the wins was sophomore Angel Gabrielle Ramirez.

The 20-year-old hit 2-4 with one RBI and a double against Grossmont and went 3-3 with four RBIs, two triples and one stolen base against COD.

“I feel like after we lost to Palomar we really got down on ourselves… then we lost to San Bernardino Valley,” Ramirez explained. “So (last week) we really wanted to come back and just get back to how we were playing before we lost.”

The Calexico High graduate serves as the Arabs’ starting catcher and despite the increasingly warmer weather enjoys her spot on the team.

“I’ve been (catching) for a very long time, so the heat doesn’t bother me too much,” Ramirez said. “I’d much rather be too hot than too cold.” My Favorites Pro athlete Clayton Kershaw Pro team Los Angeles Dodgers Class English TV show “El Chapo” Song “Can’t Touch This” Musician Iron Maiden

What do you enjoy most about your sport?

I love the rush you get when playing and I enjoy the competition. I like that it’s not something everyone can do and that you need to work really hard at it. I just love the game.

What is one of your more memorable moments in your sport?

Winning any championship game. It’s always exciting and it’s fun to feel the passion from your team to get to that point.

Who inspires you and why?

The person that inspires me is my godfather. He’s coached me and been with me throughout the time I’ve been playing softball. He’s very knowledgeable and he’s always been there supporting me.

What are your goals for the rest of this season?

To try and go all the way and show the other teams we’re better than they expect us to be.
