Teams battling for top IVL spot
The boys’ golf race for the Imperial Valley League crown is tightening up as schools began the second half of the new round-robin format last week.
After last week’s results, the team from Palo Verde Valley remains in the No. 1 spot, while Southwest and Brawley Union highs are locked for second.
Imperial stands in fourth, followed by Central and Holtville highs, respectively, with about two weeks left to go in the regular season. The six IVL competitors each competed in a pair of IVL dual matches last week, which shook up the standings for a bit after first-place Palo Verde lost for the first time.
On Tuesday, the No. 1 Yellowjackets were defeated by Brawley at the Del Rio Country Club by a score of 239-264.
Also on Tuesday, Southwest edged Imperial for a second time, 242-249, while Holtville squeezed by Central 260-264.
On Thursday, Brawley and Southwest battled it out at the De Anza Country Club in Borrego Springs, with the Wildcats capturing a 274-289 victory, brining both teams’ IVL mark to 5-2 for a second-place tie behind Palo Verde. Imperial topped Holtville 232-290, while Palo Verde bounce back from Tuesday’s loss to defeat Central, 257-269.
The teams have three dual matches left in the season before competing in the IVL Championship scheduled to begin on April 26.
