DANIEL J. VELA Feb. 14, 1956 - Apr. 17, 2018

Daniel Vela, 62, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 of natural causes.

He was born on February 14, 1956 in Newport Beach. Daniel married Margaret R. Vela in 1982. He attended Brawley Union High School, was a Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran, U.S. Immigratio­n Detention Officer before becoming a Immigratio­n Inspector. He then became a Immigratio­n Investigat­or until his retirement. He held numerous other positions but his true passion was coaching baseball and softball. He was known by many as Coach Vela. He loved fishing and playing horseshoes. Before his passing, he was a devoted grandfathe­r who loved spending time with his grandkids.

Daniel was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Vela; father, John Manuel Vela; brother, John “Chacho” Vela and sister, Marie Ellison.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Vela of 35 years; sons, Daniel “DJ” (Lizeth) Vela, Jacob Aaron Vela and Joshua D. (Sarah) Vela; daughter, Priscilla M. (Lamar) Vela; grandchild­ren, Eli Keeble, Robynson Keeble, Julian Vela, Jordan Vela, Ava Vela, Brody Vela and Jace Vela; brothers, Gabriel (Peggy) Vela, David (Irma) Vela, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Arlington Mortuary in Riverside, CA. Burial will immediatel­y follow at 1:30 p.m. Riverside National Cemetery.

Joel Coronado Pimienta, 90, of Calexico, CA passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

Joel was born on October 15, 1927 in Mazatlan, Sinaloa MX. He married Esther Lozano Coronado on September 7, 1952 in San Francisco, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; father, Adolfo; mother, Maria; brother Adolfo and son Yaelomar.

He is survived by his sister, Inez Carillo; daughters, Rachel Rascon (Jesse), Annabel Coronado-Tarin and Angelica Coronado; sons, Joel Coronado (Carmila), Jafet Coronado (Maritza); grandchild­ren, Angelo Rascon (Larissa), Paulo Rascon, Carlo Rascon, Erika Tarin, Alexandria Tarin, Giovanni Coronado, Giancarlo Coronado, Sierra Coronado, Cedric Coronado, Mariana Coronado, Melissa Coronado and Omar Coronado; great-grandchild­ren, Seleste Rascon and Cameron Telford.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 6 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro, CA. Mass will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in El Centro, CA. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico, CA.
