Man indicted for homicide
A man was indicted Tuesday by a state judge for the murder of his girlfriend, who was found dead last week.
The suspect was identified as Sergio Enrique “Doe,” 24.
During the indictment hearing, a witness identified as Oscar Manuel Córdova Martínez said he transported both the victim and the suspect in his vehicle on the night of April 15, according to La Crónica newspaper.
The witness told Judge Sara Perdomo he left the couple for several minutes while both had an argument.
After returning to the scene the witness observed the victim was apparently dead.
The body was abandoned Sunday morning at Villas del Colorado neighborhood in eastern Mexicali, where authorities found 23-year-old Valeria Ahumada Jáuregui dead.
The witness told the judge the suspect presumably killed his girlfriend after she spoke about an undisclosed issue. In his testimony, the suspect also threatened Córdova Martínez from reporting the incident to authorities.
The suspect’s mother, Noemí Dueñas, said the couple had a relationship that turned violent sometimes. The mother also said the night of the murder she witnessed an assault from her son against the victim.
Joaquín Ahumada Leyva, the victim’s father, demanded justice in this case. La Voz newspaper said the victim was a mother of a young girl and an employee at a shopping mall.
