BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High girls’ swim team locked up another Imperial Valley League title after edging Southwest High 86-83 here last week.

Helping the Wildcats to win was junior Jessica Acosta, who brought in two individual wins and was also part of the winning 200 medley relay alongside Logan Nemlowill, Abbie Castro and Larissa Avina.

“It was really exciting,” Acosta said of the meet. “We were just waiting for the official to announce the results because it was so close. It was a really good competition.”

Acosta won the 200 free in 2:08.93, the 500 free in 5:46.93 and helped the relay team finish with a time of 2:03.46.

“The relay is a lot of fun because it’s the first event (of the meet), so we’re always really excited for it,” said the 16-year-old.

While the 200 free has always been a strength for Acosta, she recently added the 500 free to her program.

“I actually really like it,” she said. “I like that it takes a little more thought to compete in and I also like that it gives me time to build up my stroke.”
