Eagles hold on for win

EL CENTRO — The Southwest High baseball team picked up a 3-1 victory over cross-town rival Central Union High here on Thursday night.

Earning the win on the mound for the Eagles was junior Ethan Ross. Ross threw a complete game, giving up two hits, one walk and one earned run, while striking out 12.

At the plate for Southwest, Ezequiel Barraza went 2-2; Logan Chell went 2-4; Francisco Ulloa went 1-2 with one RBI; Douglas Miranda went 1-3 with two RBIs, and Ross went 1-3.

For Central, Angel Nava went 1-2 with one RBI and a double, and Deniro Osuna went 1-3 with one run scored.

Osuna was on the mound for Central, throwing a respectabl­e six innings, giving up five hits and one earned run while striking out five.

IMPERIAL — The Imperial High softball team picked up an IVL victory over Brawley Union High on Thursday night, defeating the Wildcats 6-0 at Abdul Mohamed field here.

For the Tigers, Anahi Grijalva picked up the shutout win in the circle, going seven innings, scattering just two hits, issuing one walk and tallying 10 strikeouts.

At the plate for Imperial, Cassandra Valley went 2-2 with one RBI; Karissa Holguin went 1-3; Oliva Davila went 1-3; Natalia Anguiano went 1-1 with three RBIs and a double; Julyannah Ramirez went 1-3 with one RBI, and Jasmine Sandez went 1-3 with one RBI.

For the Wildcats, Jalyn Ayala picked up the hits, going 2-3 on the night.

Imperial improves to 11-11-1 overall and 6-5 in league, while Brawley moves to 18-9 overall and 6-4 in league.
