RAWLEY — The 2018 Imperial Valley League swimming championship was held at the Lions Center here last week, with a number of relay teams and individuals nabbing CIF-San Diego Section qualifying times, and consideration times as well.

The meet brought together swimmers from throughout the league and county, as every comprehensive high school in the area sent at least one athlete to the meet.

A total of three IVL finals records fell on Thursday, with a pair of Brawley Union High relay teams setting new records and an individual from Calipatria High setting a new record.

In the relay events, a new girls’ record was set in the 200 medley. The team of Abbie Castro, Logan Nemlowill, Jessica Acosta and Larissa Avina from BUHS completed the event in 2:00.41, breaking the previous record of 2:01.14 set in 2011.

Avina, Castro, Nemlowill and Paige Smelser then combined to win the 200 free relay in 1:46.68, breaking the 1:47.06 set in 2012.

The final record to fall was the 2:03.05 set in 2013 in the boys’ 200 individual medley.

Calipatria High’s Jacob Ritter now holds the finals record after completing the event in 1:59.48.

While the meet concluded this year’s IVL season, those that qualified for CIF will begin that race later this week, as CIF prelims are set for Thursday, with the finals set for Saturday morning. 2018 Imperial Valley League swimming championship results Girls’ 200 medley relay — 1.
