Wildcats close with win

BRAWLEY — The Imperial Valley League softball season came to a close on Friday night, with the teams from Brawley Union and Central Union playing in the final league game here.

The Wildcats defeated the Spartans 7-3 to end the regular season with an overall record of 22-9 and an IVL record of 8-4.

The result moves to the Spartans to 17-9 overall and 9-3 in league, placing them one game behind Southwest High, which ultimately took this year’s IVL title with Central’s defeat on Friday night.

Lilly Martinez earned the win in the circle for the Wildcats, going five innings and giving up seven hits. Jalyn Ayala got the save, pitching the last two innings and giving up one hit, while striking out two.

Offensivel­y for Brawley, Martinez had a home run, two RBIs and one run scored, and Ayala had a double, one RBI and one run scored.

Also for the Wildcats, Mikalyn Emanuelli had two hits and one RBI; Brianna Hoffman had two hits; Savannah Contreras had a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored; Dana Alvarado and Haylee Garcia each had one hit and one run scored, and Krystal Romero had one run scored.

For the Spartans, Janyssa Martin and Alyssa Gonzalez each had a hit; Jessica Acosta went 3-3 with a double; Karmina Becerra went 2-2 with a home run and two RBIs, and Amanda Alcala went 2-3 with two doubles.

The teams return to action next week to compete in the CIF-San Diego Section playoffs.
