DANIEL “BOOGAH” HERNANDEZ JR. Aug. 12, 1993 - May 30, 2018

Daniel “Boogah” Hernandez, Jr., 24, was born and raised in Brawley by his loving parents, Daniel Sr. and Rachel Hernandez. Boogah’s pride, joy, and heart were his 3 kids: Dalayna, Daniel “Cito” III, and Dazzlyn. His love and affection for his parents, his partner Lulu, his sister, Erika, and his close cousins, who were more like brothers and sisters.

Boogah had a short but an impactful time here on this Earth. Since an early age, he conquered a lot of obstacles and challenges. As a baby, he was diagnosed with whooping cough and he wasn’t suppose to live past the age of 5 but God had other plans. Boogah’s sister, Erika, whom he loved dearly, helped out the adults by helping raise him during that tough time. Erika was his ride or die. He was his sister’s alarm clock every morning calling her affectionate names depending on his mood. His favorite name for her was “Lil Wino”. Like every pair of siblings, their relationship had its fair share of ups and downs but their bond was unbreakable.

Another important relationship in Boogah’s life was his 7 year relationship with his partner and mother of his kids, Lulu, whom he affectionately referred to her as “Truch”. Together they produced 3 beautiful babies. Lulu and Daniel affectionately had a love/hate/love relationship. When times would get tough however, they would hold it down for one another. Lulu jokingly would say that Boogah is the reason for her grey hairs and now she proudly wears them as a crown of honor.

Boogah was raised by parents who love the Lord and who also loved Boogah with all their heart and soul. Boogah came to know the Lord at the age of 5 when he and his family attended Victory Outreach. Shortly thereafter, they relocated to Brawley Assembly of God Church where Boogah participated in the Royal Rangers and the Youth program. Boogah attended Brawley Assembly throughout most of his adolescence and would regularly attend their special services as a young adult. Boogah went through the Brawley school system until he reached adulthood. During his childhood and teen years, he loved playing basketball and he was good at it too. He was a natural athlete. Whatever sport or activity he chose to do, Boogah would do it well. The adult softball league and men’s basketball league were also favorite past times of his.

As soon as he was able to, he began working in the fields as a laborer. After that he began working for RDO Water as an apprentice. His most recent job was as a scaffolder in Wyoming for Liberty Scaffolding. He also helped his dad out with his landscaping business from time to time.

Boogah was a one of a kind soul. He took great pride in being straight forward and in his overall appearance. Boogah loved his Jordan’s and his Red Wings. He was short tempered but never held a grudge. He was a natural leader. He had a great and outgoing personality and easily made friends everywhere he went. He also liked to have fun and was always the life of the party. He was a joker. He enjoyed being annoying but yet make you laugh at the same time. He used to get a big kick out of slapping his friends in the back of their necks. He found that hilarious. He loved hanging out with friends. He enjoyed playing video games with his Cito. He loved taking his kids to school. He loved watching his kids’ games. His kids were his life. He enjoyed listening to corridos especially Chalino Sanchez. His favorite sports teams were the Chargers and Lakers. His favorite basketball player of all time was Kobe Bryant. He enjoyed watching professional players live and up close at professional stadiums. He enjoyed his friends. Boogah also volunteered for the Brawley Pal basketball program. Boogah would also give free haircuts to kids who were in need of one. Boogah was a dog lover and he especially loved his pitbull “Cali” who had sadly passed just a month ago. The morning of Boogah’s passing, he was blessed with a red nose pitbull who he named Lola.

Boogah was well known in our community and beloved by many. But at the end of the day, his life, his pride, his joy were his kids, his parents, Lulu, his sister, and his cousins.

In closing, we leave you with Boogah’s words: “I’m thankful for it all. The highs, the lows. The blessings, the lessons. The setbacks. The love, the hate. EVERYTHING!” He is survived by his parents, Danny and Rachel Hernandez; his partner, Lulu; children, Dalayna, Cito, and Dazzlyn; sister, Erika; extended families, the Hernandez, Romero, Duran, Villalobos, Garcia and Martinez families that consists of numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

During this difficult time, Boogah’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caring people of the Imperial Valley and surrounding communities for the outpouring of love, support, financial donations, flowers, food, and prayers you have provided for them. A special thanks goes as well to their church family at Brawley Assembly of God Church who have shown them God’s love during their terrible tragedy.
