Westbound ramps reopened at Bowker Road
Caltrans announced Friday that its construction crews opened westbound Interstate 8 on- and offramps at Bowker Road earlier this week.
Crews closed the westbound I-8 connector to northbound State Route 111 on Tuesday.
A detour, lane reduction and traffic shift will be in place through the end of August.
For the westbound I-8 to northbound SR-111, motorists will proceed west on I-8 and exit at Dogwood Road, travel south on Dogwood Road to access eastbound I-8 and exit northbound SR-111
Westbound I-8 traffic is reduced to one lane and shifted to the eastbound lanes from just east of SR111 to just west of SR-111.
I-8 continues to be reduced to one lane in each direction on a 5-mile section from approximately 0.5-mile west of SR-111 to 0.5-mile east of Barbara Worth Drive.
The construction activities for Segment 4 are anticipated to continue, with the majority of the road work being conducted during the day.
Construction impacts include slower traffic flow and delays during peak travel times, particularly from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays.
The I-8 Update project is a major pavement rehabilitation project consisting of five segments. The project involves constructing continuously reinforced concrete pavement along 48 miles of Interstate 8 in Imperial County.
Construction for the project began in 2016, and will be completed by 2019, the news release stated.
The first three segments were completed ahead of schedule. Segments 4 and 5 broke ground in the summer of 2017.
Segment 4 is approximately 15 miles and divided into two smaller sections. The first section begins just west of SR- 111 to just west of Anderholt Road, while the second section begins a half mile east of East Highline Canal Bridge to just west of the junction SR-98 and I-8 separation.
Segment 5 is approximately 7 miles and begins just west of Ogilby Road, and ends just west of SR186.
Segment 5 has achieved substantial completion and will be completed in the next month.
