MARY RUIZ “PELONA”/”NANA” CONTRERAS Jan. 15, 1957 - June 11, 2018

Mary Ruiz Contreras, 61, of Calipatria, CA passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018 at her home in Brawley due to an ongoing illness.

Mary was born on January 15, 1957 in Guadalajar­a, MX. She married Tomas Contreras on March 23, 1980 in Mexicali, BC, Mexico. Mary was a teacher aide at Calipatria High School, J.W. Oakley School in Brawley for 20 plus years and also for Imperial County of Education in El Centro for Special Education Handicap Children.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Jaquina Ruiz; husband, Tomas Contreras and brother, Guadalupe Ruiz.

She is survived by her son, Ivan D. Contreras of Calipatria, Ca; son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan T. and Sierra Contreras; daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Frank L. Watson Jr. of Brawley, CA; grandchild­ren, Jayden, Trinity, Heaven and Anya Contreras of Calipatria, CA, Melody, Trevor, Van, Frankie, Kendall, Blake and Blayne Watson of Brawley, CA; father, Carlos F. Ruiz of Brawley, CA; brothers, Alfonso and Celsa Ruiz of Yuma, AZ and Ralph and Sandra Ruiz of San Diego, CA; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley, CA.

Any donations of flowers please drop off at Frye Chapel and Mortuary on the day of service before 4 p.m.

JAVIER RIOS Dec. 8, 1947 - June 16, 2018

Valley resident Javier Rios entered into glory on June 16, 2018 in San Diego, CA.

Javier is survived by his daughter Kristina Walsh- Romero and grandchild­ren, Eddie, Milagros, Levi, Matthue and Damien; daughter-in-law Samantha and great grandson Ethan. He is also survived by sisters Lisa, Mariaelena and Antonia, as well as, countless of nephews and nieces.

Javier was a quiet mild-mannered man in his later years, while having been a free spirited young man in his youth. In the 1960s, he played in a garage band and made the teen scene as the lead vocalist for Thee Kavaliers before serving his country in the United States Army as an Army Ranger. Javier was a veteran of foreign wars and earned four bronze stars during his tours in Vietman. Kristina his daughter stated, “He completed the work he set out to do.”

A Celebratio­n of Life memorial will be held at Grace Baptist Church, 225 S. Waterman Avenue, El Centro, CA on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. Pastor Adam Espinoza to officiate.

ALBERTO HERMOSILLO GARCIA Dec. 25, 1940 - May 25, 2018

Son, Husband, Father, Friend Alberto Hermosillo Garcia, 77, of Brawley, CA. passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018.

Alberto was born on Christmas Day Decmber 25, 1940 in Guadalajar­a, Mexico.

After joining the Navy at a very young age He came back to Brawley to visit his Mother Ana Murrillo. This is where he met his first wife Mary R Garcia. They have 3 children together.

His first born in loving memory Albert Garcia (betito) , Christina Garcia and Dianna Garcia all located in Brawley, CA.

After the Navy, Alberto also worked as a press operator at C&R printers. On his days off Alberto loved to bake his favorite Pigs in the blanket which his children loved to smell while they were baking in the oven. Years later he met his 2nd partner and had his 4th child named Alberto Garcia.

Alberto ( Beto ) will be dearly missed by his children and grandchild­ren. Alberto will also be missed by his siblings, Sallee, Sergio, Rose, Margaret, Eddie and his friends who often think back when they had fun during their childhood days on H street.

EULALIA “LALA” VELIZ July 3, 1949 - June 12, 2018

Eulalia Veliz, 68, of Heber passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at UCSD Hillcrest.

She was born July 3, 1949 in Torreon Coahulia, Mexico. Eulalia was a loving mother and grandmothe­r. She enjoyed cooking and gardening was her passion.

She was preceded in death by her father, Severiano Veliz and mother, Tomasa Veliz.

Eulalia is survived by her sons, Hector (Perla) German and Jose Alberto German; daughters, Laura German, Adriana (Ignacio) Colunga, Elizabeth German and Yesenia Torres; 13 grandchild­ren and 1 great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 8 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heber. Service will follow at 9 a.m and will be officiated by Rev. David Serrano.

CHARLENE A. GATELY Oct. 2, 1927 - June 7, 2018

Our loving mother, grandmothe­r, and greatgrand­mother passed away peacefully and has gone to be with our Lord.

The family had a private memorial at Charlene’s home in Imperial on June 14, 2018. The service was officiated by Pastor Dan Bruce from Faith Assembly Church.

Charlene was the wife of the late Harry E. Gately of Imperial. She was the loving mother of Larry T. White and wife Barbara of Imperial, Daughter, Antoinette W. Smith and husband Mel of Fayettevil­le, NC., her twin sons, Fred W. White and wife Emily of Plant City, FL., Karl E. White and wife Ana of Imperial. Grandchild­ren, Jason Wright of Fayettevil­le, NC., Jonai Spencer and husband John of Houston, TX, April White of Imperial, Keith Smith and wife Kim of Imperial, Kevin Smith of Hesperia, CA. Charlene had many precious great-grandchild­ren.

RODOLFO CASTRO BARRERA Sep. 10, 1953 - June 11, 2018

Rodolfo Castro Barrera, 64, of Brawley passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018.

Rodolfo was born on September 10, 1953 in Mexicali.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Castro, Brawley, CA; son, Rudy Castro of Brawley, CA, and daughter, Elena Velarde of Brawley, CA.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Mass will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 8 a.m. at St Margaret Mary Church in Brawley. Burial will be held ay Riverview Cemetery following the mass.
