State warns for heat wave

-

The State Department of Public Health asked residents to protect themselves against the heat wave that will impact our region in coming days.

Secretary of Public Health Guillermo Trejo said residents must especially protect children younger than 5 years of age and senior citizens. The warning was also extended to those who work outdoors like farm workers, construction employees and others.

As of Monday, the state had reported 10 people affected by the heat wave. Of them, nine have suffered exhaustion caused by high temperatures and one had sunburn.

A 25-year-old woman died recently in Mexicali due to heat stroke, Trejo said. This is the first heat-related death.

Residents were asked to avoid sun rays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., drink plenty of water, wash hands before cooking and after going to the restroom, avoid eating at street carts, wash and disinfect fruits and vegetables, dress in light-colored clothes, and cover windows and doors at home.

The agency said residents with symptoms like intense thirst, dry mouth, tiredness, weaknesses, sleep, mental confusion, accelerated pulse, fatigue, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and some others should see a doctor immediately.

The city’s temporary shelter has received 58 people to escape.
