Binns named new director of Caltrans District 11
Caltrans Director Laurie Berman announced Friday the appointment of Cory Binns to serve as the new director for Caltrans District 11, which covers San Diego and Imperial counties.
Binns is a 19-year veteran of Caltrans, where he most recently served as the chief deputy district director for District 11. He previously served as Binns acting District 11 director and as the
District 11 division chief for maintenance.
“Cory’s experience and dedicated work ethic displays the importance of unity, teamwork and partnership,” said Berman in announcing the appointment. “His career successes with project development, budget oversight, environmental compliance, construction/maintenance management and public participation have helped set him apart. He will be a staunch advocate for the people of the San Diego-Imperial region.”
A 1991 graduate of UC Irvine, Binns holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.
“I look forward to continuing our work with our community and transportation partners toward the shared goal of building and maintaining a multi-modal transportation system to improve the quality of life for communities across our region,” Binns said.
Binns joined Caltrans as an Engineer in 1999. During his Caltrans career he has held positions in the divisions of Design, Environmental Engineering, Construction, Maintenance and Traffic Operations before assuming the position of district chief deputy in 2012.
Among his honors, Cory is the 2017 recipient of the Honorable Ray LaHood Award from the San Diego Chapter of WTS International. The award is designed to recognize a man who is not only a leader in transportation, but also a male who has actively led by example in seeking opportunities to advance women and minorities.
