Woman arrested for smuggling meth

-

A 31-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly attempting to smuggle more than a pound of methamphetamine while crossing through the west port of entry pedestrian lanes.

Elizabeth Ann Hanks-Garcia, city of residence undisclosed, was taken into custody at 11 p.m. Tuesday at the port of entry by Homeland Security Investigations agents and booked into county jail on no bond on suspicion of unlawful importation of a controlled substance, county Sheriff’s Office arrest records stated.

According to a federal court complaint, a human narcotics and detection dog alerted to Hanks as she was passing through the primary pedestrian lanes.

Hanks was escorted to secondary inspection, during which she removed two packages from her body. The packages field-tested positive for meth, and had a combined weight of approximately 0.52 pounds.

During an inventory of Hanks’ personal property, a Customs and Border Protection officer discovered two burritos inside of a plastic bag. Further inspection revealed each contained a package wrapped in plastic. The packages field-tested positive for meth.

The combined weight of all four packages discovered on Hanks was approximately 1.1 pounds, the court complaint stated.
