Motorcyclist arrested for smuggling meth

-

A 32-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 2 pounds of methamphetamine while traveling on a motorcycle through the west port of entry vehicle lanes.

Jorge Esteban-Montoya, city of residence undisclosed, was taken into custody at 7 a.m. Monday by Homeland Security Investigations agents and booked into county jail on no bond on suspicion of unlawful importation of a controlled substance, county Sheriff’s Office arrest records stated.

According to a federal court complaint, Montoya was referred to secondary inspection after a Customs and Border Protection officer queried Montoya’s name into the system, which returned positive for prior penalty assessments for drug possession.

During secondary inspection, a human and narcotics detection dog alerted positive to Montoya.

A CBP officer asked Montoya if he had anything to declare, to which Montoya replied, “Dos libras de hielo,” which translates to, “2 pounds of ice.”

Montoya was then handcuffed and escorted to the vehicle secondary office to conduct a pat-down, which revealed two packages taped two Montoya’s legs.

The packages removed from Montoya field-tested positive for meth and had a combined weight of approximately 2.56 pounds, the court complaint stated.
