County updates candidacy filing instructions

The Imperial County Registrar of Voters has amended information published in the Imperial Valley Press Thursday regarding the consolidated general election that will be held on Nov. 6. The original release omitted candidacy filing instructions for the city of El Centro.

Candidates for the cities of Calexico, Calipatria, El Centro, Holtville and Imperial are required to file with their respective city clerk.

Qualifications for these offices require that candidates be registered electors residing within the boundaries of the district or division in which they are running.

Coachella Valley Water District requires that candidates be registered electors residing within the boundaries of the district and within the division. Director for CVWD, Division 5 will be elected by voters who reside within the division.

Declaration of candidacy forms for eligible persons desiring to file for elective offices are available at the Office of the Registrar of Voters located at 940 W. Main St., Room 206, El Centro. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Declaration of candidacy must be filed with the Registrar of Voters Office no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 10.

If a declaration of candidacy for any incumbent elective officer of a district is not filed by 5 p.m. on Aug. 10, any person other than the incumbent shall have until 5 p.m. on Aug. 15 to file declaration of candidacy for the elective office.

Arguments for and against local ballot measures that qualify must be filed by Aug. 17, no later than 5 p.m., at the Registrar of Voters Office. Rebuttal arguments must be filed by Aug. 24 no later than 5 p.m.

Polls for the Nov. 6 general election will be open between the hours of 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. All ballots will be tallied at the Imperial County Registrar of Voters Office. Absentee ballots will begin being processed for counting on Oct. 23.
