One airlifted for treatment vehicle collision following

-

A two-vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday morning near Forrester and Carter roads resulted in one driver being airlifted for treatment.

The driver, 30-year-old San Ysidro resident Emily Suarez, was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs after sustaining moderate injuries to her back, legs and head, a California High Patrol news release stated.

No injuries were reported for the driver of the other vehicle, who was identified as 54-year-old Mexicali resident Martin S. Castrellon.

Suarez and Castrellon were the only occupants in their vehicles and were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:05 a.m. Tuesday while Suarez was driving her 2009 Nissan westbound on Carter and came to a stop at the intersection with Forrester.

At the time, Castrellon was driving his Jeep northbound on Forrester, just south of Carter, at approximately 55 miles per hour.

Before entering the intersection, Suarez looked left and right then drove her Nissan into the direct path of Castrellon’s Jeep, which she failed to see.

The front of Castrellon’s Jeep collided with the front left side of Suarez’s vehicle, which caused both vehicles to spin out.

Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage and came to a rest just north of Carter.

Forrester at Carter was shut down temporarily to land the Reach air ambulance to transport Suarez for treatment of her injuries.

The collision remains under investigation, the CHP news release stated.
