License release program highlight of Child Support Awareness Month

- STAFF REPORT

EL CENTRO — The Imperial County Department of Child Support Services will be conducting several activities in August to help families, including helping delinquent payers to get back on track and back behind the wheel, during Child Support Awareness Month.

Possibly the highlight of the programs Child Support Services has planned is a license release program for parents in arrears and whose driver’s licenses have been suspended. Between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30, those parents have an opportunity to have their licenses reinstated with the provision of current income information, picture identification, one current payment and a $25 payment on arrears.

In some cases, licenses may be released with an even lower payment. Afterward, parents wishing to keep their licenses from being suspended again will have to keep their accounts current.

Imperial County Department of Child Support Services will also be providing extended office hours through Aug. 31. Starting Wednesday, the office at 2795 S. Fourth St., in El Centro, will be open an extra 30 minutes, until 5 p.m.

Finally, the department will be having staff members present at various locations through the county on select dates and times to serve the public and answer child support case questions or to provide general information about child support services.

No appointment is necessary. Specific locations and dates are:

• Brawley Public Library, 400 Main St., Ste. 1, Brawley, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Aug. 1, 15, 22 and 29
