OBITUARIES

John Alvarez 101, Former Valley resident

-

Apr. 8, 1917 - May 21, 2018

An apology to all friends and family for this belated eulogy.

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, John Muro Alvarez, Sr. left his body peacefully on May 21, 2018.

He was born in Morenci, AZ on April 8, 1917. He and his devoted wife, Delfina were married in Calexico, CA on November 10, 1940. They were longtime residents and were married more than 77 years.

He is survived by his wife; son, John Jr. (Margarita) of Morgan Hill, CA, and daughter Lydia Salazar (Mario) of San Bernardino, CA. Their son Andrew passed away in 2001.

Mr. Alvarez worked as a farm foreman for James Adam for many years. In 1960 he began working for Ryerson Concrete as a mixer driver. He retired in his mid 70’s.

Mr. Alvarez had a witty sense of humor as noted recently when he took his drivers test at the DMV. He flunked the test on his second try, but when asked how it went he smiled and said, “Well, I know I got one right.” He passed on his third try and he remarked, “I can’t die yet because my new license doesn’t expire until 2023.” Most recently, our family happily celebrated his 101 birthday.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Bailey, who was born on June 3, 2016.
