Alleged kidnapper arrested
A Sinaloa man was arrested here for his alleged involvement in a kidnapping case reported at his home state, the Attorney General’s office said Wednesday.
The suspect has been identified as Miguel Angel Favela Ojeda, no age reported.
Mexicali Coordinator of the Special Investigations Unit David Lozano said the Sinaloa Attorney General’s office in Culiacán requested assistance from their Baja California counterparts after the suspect was located in Mexicali.
According to authorities, the kidnapping case occurred at Las Milpas, where a group of suspects arrived at a woman’s residence to report a fake accident involving the victim’s husband and her children.
The woman left the residence with the men, who, once inside the vehicle, brandished firearms and took her to a stash house for several hours while negotiating her release with her brother.
The victim was then transported to another house where she was held captive for 10 days.
The suspects demanded from the victim’s family 1.8 million pesos, or $1 million, for her release, according to the agency.
Authorities said the victim was released after her relatives paid an undisclosed amount of money.
Lozano said Favela Ojeda fled from Sinaloa after an investigation was launched regarding the kidnapping case and he became a suspect.
He was arrested and transported to Sinaloa.
