EOP Graduation
SDSU-Imperial Valley Educational Opportunity Program holds its 10th Annual Graduation Ceremony.
The San Diego State University Office of Educational Opportunity Programs and Ethnic Affairs (EOP), a Division of Student Affairs, held its 10th Annual Graduation Ceremony for the Program’s 2018 graduating Imperial Valley students.
EOP, currently in its 49th year at SDSU (17 years at SDSU Imperial Valley) is committed to supporting first-generation, low-income students through innovative outreach and retention programs that encourage them to continue towards the goal of a university degree.
The EOP Graduation Reception brings together San Diego campus EOP administrators and staff along with SDSU-IV representatives to bid May and August 2018 graduating students the very best for the future prior to the campus-wide Commencement ceremony in a personal and informal venue wherein refreshments and varied snacks were provided for all. They are able to bring four guests each inclusive of friends, family and others who have seen them work, often surmounting significant personal obstacles, to fulfill their Bachelor’s Degrees. Students had the opportunity to approach the podium various times to share some of their experiences towards obtaining their degrees, which very often included recognizing guests in attendance for their support along the way.
Two EOP graduates received special recognition during the ceremony. Michelle Priscilla received the Academic Excellence Award and Rocio Ortiz received the Outstanding Community Service Award.
The Graduation Reception was, as on prior occasions, a success, with nearly 50 attendees. The atmosphere throughout the event remained pleasant and very positive. EOP looks forward to continuing this tradition for future EOP graduates at SDSU-Imperial Valley.
