Extensions announced for declarations of candidacy
EL CENTRO — The Imperial County Registrar of Voters has announced the filing period for several contests in the Nov. 6 consolidated general election have been extended.
Pursuant to Election Code 10516, if a declaration of candidacy for any incumbent elective officer of a district is not filed by 5 p.m. on Aug. 10, any person other than the incumbent shall have until 5 p.m. on Aug. 15 to file a declaration of candidacy for the elective office.
Offices for which an extension has been declared are:
Calipatria Unified School: 4-year term
Magnolia Union Elementary School: 4-year term
Mulberry Elementary School: 4-year term
Pioneers Memorial Healthcare: 4-year term
Seeley Union Elementary School: 4-year term
Extension declarations for council seats for the cities of Calexico, Calipatria, El Centro, Holtville and Imperial are pending confirmation from the respective city clerk fffices. Desert Community College — TA 1, Coachella Valley Unified School and Coachella Valley Water District — Division 5 are also awaiting confirmation from their respective agencies.
Eligible candidates will have until 5 p.m. on Aug. 15 to file a declaration of candidacy. Those wishing to submit a candidate’s statement of qualifications must do so at the time their declaration of candidacy is filed.
A statement of qualifications is a 200-word or less statement from the candidate that is included in the Voter’s Information Guide.
Filing a statement of qualifications is not mandatory for candidacy.
Declaration of candidacy forms may be obtained through the Imperial County Registrar of Voters located at 940 W. Main St., El Centro.
