Longtime Brawley resident Latricia Lelia Hanks, 71, passed away August 9, 2018 at Pioneers Memorial Hospital of kidney disease following a lengthy and hard- fought illness.

Latricia was born June 19, 1947 in Redlands, Calif. She attended grade school in Calipatria and graduated in 1965 from Calipatria High School.

She met her husband, James, at church when she was 15, and they went to the Senior class play for their first date. They married December 23, 1965 and were together 52 years.

A proud housewife and mother, Latricia also helped run Happy Valley Ranch, where many locals boarded their horses in Brawley. She was beloved and known for her sweet nature, beautiful laugh, solid Christian faith, and strong ties to family. She was the strength of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R.D. and Lucille Buckner and brother-in-law, Orbia E. Hanks.

Latricia is survived by her husband, James C. Hanks; daughter, Crystal (Ben) Saiza of Calipatria; sons, Wade and Grant Hanks of Brawley; grandchild­ren, Christophe­r, Ryan and Sophie Hanks, all of Brawley, Sierra, Benji and Jacob Saiza of Calipatria; brother, Roy (Linda) Buckner of Brawley; sisters, Carol (Len) Welch of Oregon and Imogene (Ed) Pascule of La Habra; sisters-in-law, Carol Hanks of Brawley and Bonnie (Larry) Conard of Oregon; brothers-in-law, Paul (Paulette) Hanks and George (Stacy) Hanks of Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews.

The visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 24th at Frye Chapel in Brawley. A Memorial service is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, August 25th at Frye Chapel and the Rev. Jim Spellins of First Southern Baptist Church in Calipatria will officiate. Burial services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to a charity of their choice.
