Aqueduct works normally, official says

A state official with the Water Commission of Baja California said Wednesday the aqueduct that passes water from the Colorado River to the coastal cities has been working normally and sending enough water.

Aqueduct Operations and Maintenance Director Guadalupe Salazar denied claims some unidentified groups have been spreading to confuse residents.

He emphasized that if those claims were true, coastal residents would run out of water. Instead, the aqueduct has never stopped sending water on average 5,700 liters per second, or 201 cubic feet.

This year, public utilities providers will receive 158 million cubic meters of water, or 128,000 acre-feet, the official said.

Man caught with fentanyl, firearm

A man was arrested by state police officers while driving a California-registered vehicle loaded with hundreds of fentanyl pills.

The state Department of Public Safety said Wednesday the incident occurred at Vasco de Quiroga Avenue and Luis de Velasco Street at Fraccionamiento Las Fuentes subdivision, next to the El Nido Baseball Stadium.

Police agents began observing the driver of a 2011 Volkswagen with California plates based on an anonymous tip.

The agents attempted to stop the driver, who instead ignored the orders and tried to flee at high speed.

The man stopped and attempted to enter a residence.

The man was detained and identified as Alejandro “Doe,” 26.

The agents found 2,500 fentanyl pills in the passenger seat, according to the report.

Police officers found inside the trunk a .22-caliber gun, four magazines and 47 cartridges.

The suspect was turned over to a prosecuting agency.
