Agents seize meth
Border Patrol agents seized more than 2 pounds of methamphetamine at about 5 p.m. Friday that was allegedly left in an unoccupied vehicle parked near downtown, the agency reported.
Agents using a remote video surveillance system had reportedly observed a man illegally cross into the United States and run toward the Border View Apartments in the 1200 block of East Second Street, a press release stated.
The man was also observed returning toward the border and scale the fence back into Mexico, the Border Patrol reported.
Agents responded to the area where the individual was last seen and encountered an unoccupied vehicle with the back windows lowered halfway, and observed two brown packages in the rear passenger compartment area, the Border Patrol reported.
A Border Patrol canine detection team subsequently responded and alerted to the vehicle, prompting agents to secure both packages and transport them to the Calexico station, where the packages tested positive for characteristics of methamphetamine, the agency stated.
The two bags of methamphetamine had a combined weight of 2.09 pounds, with an estimated value of $5,538. The methamphetamine was turned over to Drug Enforcement Agency.
No arrests were made, and no suspects were identified as of Monday morning.
