IMPERIAL HIGH

Since we last checked in on them, the Tigers have won one and lost one, bringing their record to 2-2 on the season.

On Aug. 23, facing off against Serra High out in San Diego, they took care of business — winning in straight sets, 27-25, 25-16, 25-21.

Senior Alyssa Chavarria had a solid overall performance, ending with eight kills for a hitting percentage of .400, with eight digs and four service points won. Also making important contributions were senior Jayce Pendley (12 assists, five service points), sophomore Julianne Camalich (11 assists, four service points), and sophomore Lexi Ruiz (10 digs, seven service points).

In action again on Monday, the Tigers fared less well. Playing at home against Kofa High, they managed to ride some early momentum to a 25-21 win in set one, but were unable to make much happen after that, dropping the next three 18-25, 16-25, 21-25.

Even in defeat, Imperial gave a good effort. Pendley and Camalich once again did their best to set things up finishing with 12 and 14 assists apiece, Pendley adding eight digs and nine service points on the day. Junior Abby Ormand and senior Cady Davis did their best to convert on the chances they got, finishing with seven and eight kills, respectively.

Imperial next takes the court later on tonight, taking on Gila Ridge at home.

SOUTHWEST

The Eagles of Southwest High have also been keeping busy. Their Aug. 22 date against Coronado High ended in disappointment as they lost three to nil, making a particularly poor showing in the third set, 8-25, after having made things more competitive in the first two (19-25 and 22-25, respectively).

Things went better for the team on Monday night against Cibola, whom they beat handily 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-13).

In that match, Southwest accrued 21 team kills, paced by six from junior Madeline Jungers. Fellow junior Erika Arellano led the way in the service game, totaling 29 attempts and only one error for a service percentage of 0.996 while picking up four aces. Arellano also lead the team in assists with 15, and was one of four Eagles with double-digit digs, finishing with 12.

The team played again last night at home against Gila Ridge, with results being unavailable as of press time.
