CPD crackdown yields several arrests

-

Calexico Police Department announced that a total of five proactive arrests and others, ranging from a warrant arrest, a traffic-related arrest and a DUI arrest, were made Friday night throughout the city during a crime suppression patrol detail.

“The Calexico Police Department is committed to reducing gang crimes and thefts in the city of Calexico through the strict enforcement of laws specially targeting known gang members residing in the city,” CPD stated on Friday.

One of the arrests involved a suspicious subject who was contacted in the 700 block of Grant Street. The subject, a convicted felon on probation for robbery, reportedly lied about his name and his probation status.

When confronted about his identity, the subject reportedly decided to flee from officers and resist arrest. The subject was eventually taken into custody for various alleged offenses, one of which included an outstanding warrant. Another arrest on Friday night resulted from a subject said to be seen crouching next to a parked vehicle in a parking lot in the city.

The subject was contacted, and after further investigation, officers discovered the subject was on probation and had an outstanding warrant for violating his probation.

Anyone with information regarding criminal activity is encouraged to contact CPD at (760) 768-2140.
