Questions raised about new port of entry
A non-profit organization representative raised questions regarding the lack of bridges in the new west port of entry that opened Tuesday.
The School-Business Liaison Committee President Arturo Arballo said the business community has expressed its concerns regarding the funds needed to build the bridges that connect the facility with the downtown area.
The Mexican government decided to eliminate those bridges in the project, presumably due to lack of funds.
The cost of those bridges has been estimated at 280 million pesos, or $15 million.
Arballo highlighted the significance of those bridges for the businesses and medical offices in the area.
He said members of the Economic Development Council and the Entrepreneurial Coordinating Board have joined forces with other business representatives to demand the construction of those projects.
Negotiations have even taken place with the Mexican President in order to make him aware of the issue and to appeal for the funds needed.
The Mexican government has told local officials to build the bridges with local funds.
Arballo said President Enrique Peña is expected to visit the city in November for the port of entry’s inauguration.
