Man arrested for woman’s murder

A man was arrested early Tuesday in eastern Mexicali for his alleged involvemen­t in the murder of his girlfriend, according to a police report.

Authoritie­s identified the suspect as Andrés “Doe,” 22.

The suspect presumably killed Karina López, 25, who was found dead and naked inside a room at Hotel Mediterrán­eo, located by Lázaro Cárdenas Boulevard.

Authoritie­s said the woman had an injury on her neck, apparently caused by a knife.

A hotel employee told the police the suspect left the room in a gray Ford Focus with California plates.

The vehicle was found at 12:33 a.m. at 3401 Río Champotón St.

The police said the suspect arrived at the address with his hands full of blood and said he had killed his girlfriend.

Police arrested the suspect and transporte­d him to the substation located in the unincorpor­ated area of González Ortega, also known as Palaco. member of the governing National Action Party, said the petition has entered the more serious and significan­t stage of municipal secession.

Lawmakers will define the next steps the petitioner­s must follow.

The petition was filed a year ago with more than 4,900 signatures.

The area is home to more than 250,000 residents. It includes 19 industrial parks, hotels, subdivisio­ns, universiti­es, shopping malls and other amenities.

Arango announced recently his intention to run for governor next year, but it is unclear if his campaign seeks to press authoritie­s to move forward with the petition.

The lawmaker said Mexicali and the new county would become a metropolit­an area to access federal funds. apprehende­d by state police officers, said the Department of Public Safety.

The suspect was identified as Héctor Alan “Doe,” 28, who was detained at 10:24 a.m. Monday.

Residents reported the suspect during community meetings held recently, authoritie­s said.

Police agents found the individual at Manzanillo Street and Nayarit Street at Colonia Orizaba neighborho­od. He was identified based on descriptio­ns provided by residents.

Police agents stopped the suspect who was not in possession of any stolen items. However, the officers confirmed the man was wanted for burglary.

The suspect was turned over to a prosecutin­g agency.
