New store owner motivated to succeed

- BY TOM BODUS

BRAWLEY — Annie Vijarro was up at 5 a.m. Saturday getting ready to open the doors of her new clothing boutique downtown. Truth is, she sounded a little surprised that she was up and about that time of day, but added, “We have a lot of motivation and a lot of stuff to do.”

Motivation would appear to be something that comes naturally to Vijarro. Her new Brawley Fashions, 136 Main St., is the second business she has opened this year.

The other, Annita’s Cosmetics, opened in June at 150 Main St.

Vijarro, who previously had operated a home cosmetics business for four years and who will turn 28 next week, said she’s always had an entrepreneurial spirit. “I’ve always loved business,” she said.

Brawley Fashions reflects an idea she’s had for a while to offer current fashions for the whole family. The shop isn’t big, but she’s determined to offer a little something for everybody.

“We’re focused on family fashion,” she said. Vijarro’s partners in her stores are her sister, Sidney Vijarro, and her brother-in-law, Rudy Figueroa, both of whom live in Sacramento.

While Vijarro knows she has a lot of work ahead of her in building her two businesses, she’s not lacking for confidence.

Asked what it is about about her new store that will set it apart from the competition, her answer was direct and concise:

“What makes it special is me.”
