The next three days may be the most important in the history of sports for Brawley and Imperial Valley residents as three national Babe Ruth League officials arrive at 8:45 tonight, planning a threeday look-see at Brawley. They represent the National Babe Ruth World Series Committee.

From a humble beginning in 1954, Brawley now is in the running to host the 1969 Babe Ruth World Series.

The city played host to the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament this year.

Richard W. Case, George C. Reimann and J. Jervey Gantt arrive at the Imperial County Airport this evening. Gantt is the World Series site inspector for the national organization.

Extending community hospital care into the home is a new program at Pioneers Memorial Hospital, Brawley.

The Home Health Service is designed to shorten hospital stays, cut costs and help patients become independent more quickly in caring for themselves.

Margaret Straub, a Public Health nurse, is chief of the program, currently funded by the Comprehensive Employment Training Act.

She has nine bilingual home health aides under her supervision who visit recently discharged hospital patients who may need follow-up nursing service in the home.

According to Mary Rangel of CETA, the one-year project ended Sept. 30 and was contracted for $106,315.07. The funding included administration and training costs, and a $561-per-month salary for each aide. (Mrs. Straub is salaried by PMH).

The program will continue, however, through MediCal, Medicare, possible state funding and private funding, according to Mrs. Straub.

HOLTVILLE — Every time someone asks the Holtville Viking football team, they have an answer.

Friday, they explained why they feel they can contend for the Desert-Coastal League championship.

The Vikings limited the Imperial Tigers to 136 yards from the line of scrimmage en route to a 28-8 non-league victory here Friday.

The Vikings (4-0) stopped the Tigers (14) in what was a surprising game plan for Imperial. The Tigers were supposed to run the wishbone offense at the Vikings, but that wasn’t the case Friday.
