State official denies allegations
A state official denied the allegations raised by a Mexican Senator whose brother was shot Tuesday morning in Tecate.
Secretary of Government Francisco Rueda said the attempted murder of Sergio León Guardado has been under investigation by the Attorney General’s office.
According to the secretary, the victim has not cooperated with detectives in providing evidence and testimony that could lead to arrests.
The victim is brother to Sen. Alejandra León Gastélum, who said previously Gov. Francisco Vega is responsible of the incident.
“Accusing the governor of this incident is irresponsible,” Rueda said. “The senator has no evidence for that (accusation), and her statement does not provide any help.”
Tecate Police Department said the victim was driving Tuesday morning a Ford truck when three suspects shot him several times.
The victim was injured in a hand, an arm and a leg. Sen. León said her brother’s wallet was found intact at the scene.
Rueda said the attorney general and the secretary of public safety got involved in the case to ensure it is investigated appropriately.
According to Rueda, there is no need to politicize the incident and added that the state is doing everything possible to arrest the suspects and hold them accountable.
