Mobile office to visit Calexico

- BY JULIO MORALES Staff Writer

CALEXICO – Representatives from several county agencies will be on hand Wednesday evening to provide residents here with information and services during a visit by the Imperial County Mobile Office.

During the event, residents will be able to obtain services and information from the county Department of Social Services, Area Agency on Aging and In-Home Support Services.

Residents who may need assistance with Medi-Cal enrollment and claims, child support services, cash assistance and senior citizen services are encouraged to attend.

The mobile office is specifically designed to assist Valley residents who may lack a convenient mode of transportation to the agencies’ offices outside of their respective hometowns, said county Supervisor John Renison, whose district includes Calexico.

“This is just one way of reaching out that we need to be doing in the county,” Renison said.

Depending on the level of residents’ participation on Wednesday, there is also an opportunity that the mobile office could return more frequently to Calexico, Renison said.

“That would justify us coming out more,” Renison said. “If people don’t show up, then it won’t be used.”

The mobile office is a 36-foot recreational vehicle that the county Board of Supervisors authorized for purchase in 2015.

In the past, the mobile office has been used to offer services to residents of the county’s unincorporated areas, Imperial Valley College students as well as assist with countywide voter registration.

The participating agencies that will be on hand Wednesday in Calexico are the ones that appear to be in greater demand by residents, and in particular those who are elderly and low income, Renison said.

“These county services are much needed and we have to be accessible and available as much as possible,” he said.

The Imperial County Mobile Office will be in front of Calexico City Hall from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It is also scheduled to appear Monday at Holtville City Hall and Tuesday at IVC, according to the county Department of Social Services’ website.
