A pair of two-year lettermen and a “rookie” running back carry the majority of chances for the Brawley Wildcats against the El Centro Spartans in Imperial Valley League action tomorrow night.

Statements from coaches and statistics point to Doug Womack, Paul O’Brien and Tommy Cato as being Brawley’s main weapons.

Coach Hal McNaughton’s Wildcats enter with a 1-1 IVL mark. The Spartans of coach Cal Jones lead the league with a 2-0 record.

Fourteen days without a football game has helped some injuries heal at Imperial Valley College as coach Gary Kollenborn prepares for Saturday’s visit to Victorville.

The Arabs will play their second afternoon game of the campaign against Victor Valley College.

The Desert Conference clash is scheduled to start at 1:30.

Kollenborn and his Arabs haven’t enjoyed unlimited success (1-5) in 1978.

The tie, 10-10, against Pomona-Pitzer, was recorded during an afternoon encounter.

IVC took last week off from conference wars. The Arabs opened pennant play the week before by hosting and losing to College of the Desert, 38-13.

Kollenborn’s forces had a 10-7 lead at one time in the encounter. The game featured a record-setting 47-yard field goal off the foot of Arab Brad Villanueva.

COD is the defending Desert Conference champion and the Roadrunners have been acting like it. MiraCosta faced COD last weekend in conference play and suffered a 24-22 setback.

Victor Valley has been riding along in almost the same boat as IVC. The Rams have won one game, gaining a decision over the Barstow Highlanders, a semi-pro outfit.
