WALTER ERIC STRAHM Apr. 10, 1931 - Oct. 23, 2018

Walter Eric Strahm, 87, of Holtville passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Walter was born at home on April 10, 1931 to Swiss Immigrants Fred and Bertha Strahm. He resided in Holtville his entire life. At a young age he helped his father on their farm and dairy. That was the beginning of his dedicated farming career. On June 18, 1955 Walter married his beloved wife of 63 years, Rhoda Jane Neidiffer of a Holtville sheepherdi­ng and farming family. Walter, his brother Ernie and their father farmed together until Fred Strahm’s passing. Walter and Ernie continued farming as Strahm and Sons until 1981. At that time they each formed their own companies farming with their sons. Walter remained active in Strahm Farms with his three sons Ralph, Loren and Roy until recent years. Walter was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Holtville, as well as the Swiss Club of Imperial Valley. He enjoyed attending all the social events and visiting with people over a cup of coffee. Walter is survived by his wife Rhoda Jane, his three children, Ralph (Nancy), Loren (Rayleen), Roy (Cindee); six grandchild­ren, and five great-grandchild­ren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Ruth Fudge and Mary Ann Kemp. Walter was preceded in death by his brother Ernie and his parents.

Walter was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfathe­r. He will be greatly missed by all. Graveside service will be held on Thursday November 1, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro, CA.

SOCORRO J. URIAS July 27, 1936 - Oct. 20, 2018

Visitation will take place Monday, November 5 from 6 to 9 p.m., with Rosary at 7 p.m., at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro for Socorro Urias, 82, of El Centro who passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018. Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in El Centro on Tuesday, November 6 at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Born July 27, 1936, Socorro was one of ten children born to the late Ricardo and Dolores Jimenez. Socorro was raised in El Centro graduating from Central Union High School before continuing her education at Imperial Valley College. She was later married to Alex E. Urias and together they had two children, Alex J. Urias and Mona L. Urias. Her husband Alex passed away April 16, 2003. Socorro was employed with Imperial County Social Services for many years before retiring in October 2017 due to her illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ricardo and Dolores; husband, Alex; siblings, Leo, Ricardo, Trini, Aurelio, Margarita, Natalia, Sav- ina, and Dolores. Socorro is survived by her children, Alex and Mona; her six grandchild­ren: her road dog, Kassandra I. Orozco, Alex M. Urias, Risa and Besa Flores, Savannah and Siearrah Esparza. She is also survived by her brother, Manuel Jimenez; longtime friend, Greg “Goyo” Parra and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved very much.

PAMELA SUE SCOTT Aug. 16, 1956 - Oct. 9, 2018

Pamela Sue Scott was born in Pennsylvan­ia on August 16, 1956. She went to be with the Lord at 62 years of age on October 9, 2018 after a short, yet hard fought battle with cancer.

At 6 months of age she moved with her family to El Centro, CA. She resided in the Imperial Valley for over 61 years. She graduated from Central Union High School her Junior year with class of ‘73. After schooling, she worked for Pioneers Memorial Hospital District as a medical assistant and was in the medical field for over 8 years. She was married to Stanley Scott for 12 years, during this time they had two children whom she loved very much.

In the early 1990’s Pam met her significan­t other, Isaac Vargas. They resided in Brawley, CA where they managed apartments and did product merchandis­ing together. Their love was eternal and they were together for 25 years. He was by her side until her last breath.

Pam enjoyed being with family and friends, especially entertaini­ng at her house for the holidays. Her grandson, David, was her greatest joy of all.

She was preceded in death by her sister Paula Skovira. She is survived by: her parents Paul and Arlene Skovira; her sister Anita Pangle (Ray); her son Stephen Scott (Ashley); her daughter Marci Layton (Travis); her grandson David Ascencio; her love Isaac Vargas, and many more family and friends.

The family will be holding a Celebratio­n of Life on November 3, 2018 at Brawley American Legion from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

JOSE ANGEL BARBA SR. Feb. 14, 1948 - Oct. 19, 2018

Jose Angel Barba Sr., 70, of Brawley, CA passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 of a Hemorrhagi­c Stroke in San Diego, CA.

Jose was born on February 14, 1948 in Mexicali, BC, Mexico. He married Aida Barba on October 12, 1974 in Mexicali, BC, Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Maria Barba.

He is survived by his wife, Aida Barba; children, Jose A. Barba Jr., Diana Barba Nunez of Brawley, CA and Sonia J. Barba of San Luis, AZ.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church in Brawley, CA. Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 10 a.m. with Father Ed Horning officiatin­g at St. Margaret Mary Church in Brawley, CA. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley, CA.
