SOCORRO J. URIAS

July 27, 1936 - Oct. 20, 2018

Visitation will take place Monday, November 5 from 6 to 9 p.m., with Rosary at 7 p.m., at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro for Socorro Urias, 82, of El Centro who passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018. Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in El Centro on Tuesday, November 6 at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Born July 27, 1936, Socorro was one of ten children born to the late Ricardo and Dolores Jimenez. Socorro was raised in El Centro graduating from Central Union High School before continuing her education at Imperial Valley College. She was later married to Alex E. Urias and together they had two children, Alex J. Urias and Mona L. Urias. Her husband Alex passed away April 16, 2003. Socorro was employed with Imperial County Social Services for many years before retiring in October 2017 due to her illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ricardo and Dolores; husband, Alex; siblings, Leo, Ricardo, Trini, Aurelio, Margarita, Natalia, Savina, and Dolores. Socorro is survived by her children, Alex and Mona; her six grandchildren: her road dog, Kassandra I. Orozco, Alex M. Urias, Risa and Besa Flores, Savannah and Siearrah Esparza. She is also survived by her brother, Manuel Jimenez; longtime friend, Greg “Goyo” Parra and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved very much.
