Fatal motorcycle accident victim identified
Authorities identified Cliff Contreras, 33, of Holtville, as the victim who died in a motorcycle accident that occurred early Sunday morning near eastbound Interstate 8 and Imperial Avenue.
Contreras sustained fatal injuries from the accident and was pronounced deceased at the scene, California Highway Patrol announced Wednesday.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:06 a.m. Sunday when Contreras was driving his Honda CBR motorcycle southbound from El Centro on Imperial Avenue to I-8 using the on-ramp.
A CHP El Centro area unit observed Contreras and his motorcycle hit the on-ramp guard rail at Imperial Avenue to I-8 eastbound.
The unit responded to the scene and found the motorcycle on the roadway, but no rider.
Upon a search of the surrounding area, Contreras was found on the other side of the guardrail from where the Honda came to rest.
For reasons still under investigation, Contreras allowed his motorcycle to drift to the right and off the roadway.
The Honda collided into the metal-and-concreteraised guardrail and caused Contreras to be ejected from the motorcycle.
As a result of the collision, Contreras was thrown over the guardrail and down into the dirt berm next to the on-ramp.
A CHP news release stated the collision remains under investigation as of Wednesday.
