Two caught with drugs after shootout

-

Two men were arrested over the weekend with a load of marijuana in rural Mexicali, said the Department of Public Safety.

According to the agency, the suspects were identified as Luis Alfredo “Doe,” aka “Wisho,” 30, of Santa Maria, Calif., and Gerardo “Doe,” 31, of Ejido Hermosillo.

State police officers found the suspects at Ejido Chiapas II in a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban.

Police officers attempted to stop the driver, but the suspects entered a dirt road.

The suspects exited the vehicle and fired at the agents, who returned fire.

The agency said no injuries were reported.

Police agents seized a .223 handgun and a .556 firearm as well as two magazines and 36 cartridges.

Inside the vehicle, police agents found 116 kilograms, or about 232 pounds, of marijuana.

Gerardo was transported to Mexicali General Hospital due to getting poisoned with fertilizer while hiding in a field.

The agency said Wisho was arrested in 2012 in Tijuana for his alleged relationship with the Garibay criminal organization of rural Mexicali that was involved in drug smuggling and kidnapping.

This suspect presumably also took part in that year’s theft of police weapons at the substation in Ejido Nuevo León.

The suspects were turned over to the Mexican Attorney General’s office.
