No major shifts revealed in latest election update

There were no surprises in the latest election update from the Imperial County Registrar of Voters.

Trends and rankings observable in previous updates remained true in the update posted at 4:57 p.m. Thursday.

The Registrar’s office will issue another results update today on its website at www.co.imperial.ca.us/regvoters.

The unofficial update includes all polling place voters and some vote-by-mail ballots. This is not a final tally of all ballots.

Since the Registrar’s office is required to continue receiving vote-by-mail ballots from other counties or that were mailed by Nov. 6, the number of unprocessed ballots has increased.

As of Thursday, there are approximately 12,700 unprocessed ballots, the Registrar’s office said. Included in this figure are 9,560 vote-by-mail ballots, 3,074 provisional and 69 conditional voter registration provisional ballots.

Furthermore, the Registrar’s office anticipates receiving additional ballots. The Registrar’s office said it plans to release updates regularly until all vote-by-mail ballots are counted. Additionally, provisional ballots may not be counted until all voter rosters are reviewed and voter’s history is applied to voter’s record.

The Registrar’s office said its staff will continue to work diligently to complete the election canvassing process and update the public of results in a timely manner. It added it “wishes to thank the public for their patience” as canvassing continues for this election.
