Stabbing suspect arrested
A 44-year-old Brawley transient suspected in a stabbing that left one victim hospitalized was arrested Friday morning, Brawley Police Department announced.
Kevin Baxter was taken into custody and booked into county jail on suspicion of attempted murder for an incident that occurred Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 4:45 p.m., the Brawley Communication Center received the report of two male subjects fighting in the area of 400 W. B St.
Police officers responded to the area and located a 49-year-old male with a single stab wound to his upper torso.
Brawley Fire Department responded and rendered medical assistance. The victim was later transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to Pioneers Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
The victim is expected to make a full recovery, a BPD news release stated.
The alleged suspect was identified as Baxter. Baxter reportedly fled on foot before first responders arrived.
Based on information gathered during the course of the criminal investigation, it is believed the stabbing was a result of a personal dispute between Baxter and the victim.
Brawley police officers located Baxter about 8:30 a.m. Friday in the area of 500 W. River Drive and took him into custody without incident.
